Critical Thinking in the Writings of Said Nursi: An Analytical Framework for Islamic Epistemology

This paper examines the conception and application of critical thinking within the intellectual corpus of Bediüzzaman Said Nursi (1877-1960), one of the most influential Islamic scholars of the twentieth century. Through systematic analysis of the Risale-i Nur Collection, this study demonstrates that Nursi developed a comprehensive critical thinking methodology rooted in both Islamic epistemology and rational inquiry. The paper explores how Nursi's approach integrates Qur'anic exegesis, empirical observation, and logical reasoning to address contemporary challenges facing Muslim communities. Key findings reveal that Nursi's critical framework emphasizes the harmonization of revelation and reason, the cultivation of doubt as a pathway to certainty, and the application of analogical reasoning across diverse domains of knowledge. This study contributes to ongoing discussions about Islamic pedagogy, intellectual renewal, and the intersection of faith and critical inquiry in modern contexts.
